Linda
Alvarado, who was named by Hispanic Business Magazine as one
of the 100 Most Influential Hispanics in America, is the president
of Alvarado Construction, Inc., a commercial general contracting firm based
in Denver, and is part owner of the Colorado Rockies baseball team. She is
also corporate director of Pitney Bowes, Inc.; Cyprus Amax Minerals
Company; and Engelhard Corporation. She is the chairman of the board of
directors of the Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a director of the
National Hispanic Scholarship Fund, and a Commissioner of the White House
Initiative for Hispanic Excellence in Education. A nationally recognized
speaker and advocate for Hispanic business issues, Alvarado was the
recipient of the Sara Lee Corporation Frontrunner Award for exemplary
achievement and leadership in business and the community. In 1994 she was
the Denver Hispanic Chamber of Commerce National Businesswoman of the Year.
In 1996 she was selected the Revlon Business Woman of the Year, received
the National Minority Supplier Development Council Leadership Award, was
selected for the second time as the United States Hispanic Chamber of
Commerce Business Woman of the Year, and received an honorary doctorate in
commercial science from Dowling College in New York.
